When Black Panther the film was released in 2018, the nostalgia was tremendous over its all-black cast playing superheroes adapted from the Stan Lee comic series. Everyone in the black community celebrated the film’s release going to the movies seeing it more than once, wearing African garb or anything showing black pride. It meant a lot to them seeing the film depicts a cast never seen where men and women of color were superheroes in a major box office film. I can recall going to the movies and seeing it, though I am not obsessed with comic action heroes or science fiction the whole fixation on the film and African characters connecting to African Americans. There were people walking in wearing Dashikis to show their identification with their African culture. Chadwick Boseman I remember was among the cast giving people the opportunity in having a moment where people of color shined harder than it ever did but making them have tremendous pride in themselves regardless of who they were. Not one of us knew he was sick doing what he expressed to have a passion to do. Acting. It makes him our superhero and that we must never forget. This piece reflects the child having a hero they looked up. For African American children, T’Challa the character in Black Panther gave them a hero that resembled them. People of color celebrated Black Panther as a film giving their community and their children a black superhero that could be seen to be as huge as Super Man or Spider-Man. The film was said to gross a tremendous amount of money. The piece reflects the inner child having a feeling of identifying with someone that looks like them. It honors the memory of Chadwick Boseman who gave us that opportunity to see a superhero come in any color. He is as mentioned will always be our superhero.
